Space Invaders (Taito, 1978), designed by Tomohiro Nishikado, is the arcade game that launched the shoot-’em-up genre and the golden age of arcade video games. The player moves a laser cannon along the bottom of the screen, firing up at rows of descending aliens that speed up as their numbers thin. These are the original Intel 8080 program ROMs; they remain the copyright of Taito Corporation and are hosted here on a grey-area preservation basis.
