The M5’s 8 KB internal ROM is a monitor / initial-program-loader, not BASIC. With no cartridge inserted it initialises the VDP and CTC and idles — the bare machine you would meet before plugging in a BASIC or game cartridge. A grey/freeware system ROM, self-hosted and cited.
