Galaxian (Namco, 1979) is the game that answered Space Invaders and defined the fixed shooter: your fighter holds the bottom of the screen while a formation of colourful aliens peels off in swooping dive-bomb runs. It introduced multi-coloured sprites and a scrolling starfield to the genre and led directly to its sequel, Galaga. These are the original Namco program, graphics and colour-PROM ROMs (MAME "galaxian", Namco set 1); they remain the copyright of Namco (Bandai Namco) and are hosted here on a grey-area preservation basis.
