Texas Instruments' MSP430 LaunchPad (2011) is the low-cost evaluation board for the ultra-low-power 16-bit MSP430 family, here fitted with the MSP430G2553 running at up to 16MHz with 16KB of flash and 512 bytes of RAM. The board exposes two on-board LEDs (a red LED1 on P1.0 and a green LED2 on P1.6), a push button on P1.3 and a UART back-channel to the host. Here it boots real compiled firmware on a from-scratch MSP430 core. On-board only, and the bare board has no audio, so it is silent.

Controls
Runs real hand-assembled MSP430 firmware on a from-scratch 16-bit MSP430 core (an MSP430G2553 on the MSP-EXP430G2 LaunchPad). Pick a program with the ROM selector. The two on-board LEDs are LED1 (red, P1.0) and LED2 (green, P1.6); the S2 button is on P1.3; UART output goes to the backchannel serial console at the bottom. "Blink LED1" toggles the red LED; "Alternate LEDs" blinks red and green in opposition; "Button toggles LED1" toggles LED1 on each S2 press — hold/click the S2 button in the Controls window; "Timer_A blink" paces LED1 off the Timer_A overflow flag; "UART hello + counter" prints a greeting and an incrementing counter over the backchannel UART. Open the debugger, or add ?debug, to single-step the MSP430, read R0-R15 (PC/SP/SR + R3..R15) and the C/Z/N/V/GIE flags, disassemble the flash at 0xC000 with the new MSP430 decoder and set breakpoints and write watchpoints. The LaunchPad has no on-board speaker, so it is honestly silent.
