Pole Position

Runs the REAL Pole Position arcade ROM set: the Zilog Z80 master and BOTH Zilog Z8002 game CPUs execute their genuine ROM code, AND the real Namco 51xx (coin/credit/protection) and 53xx (steering/DIP) custom MCUs — each a Fujitsu MB8843 run from its genuine ROM on a from-scratch MB88xx core over a faithful Namco 06xx serial bus. The 51xx protection handshake passes and the two Z8002 stay phase-locked on a cycle-accurate time-ordered interleave, so the game BOOTS PAST the self-test and SUSTAINS: the attract mode cycles the winding-track title screen and the self-playing demo race, all drawn by the real video hardware (road generator, 4bpp zoom sprites, alphanumeric layer, palette — from the genuine ROMs/PROMs, every ROM SHA1-verified against MAME). Insert a coin (5 or C) and press the accelerator (Up): the game shows PREPARE TO QUALIFY and hands you a live, STEERABLE qualifying lap — steer with Left/Right (the real 53xx), Up/Down are the accelerator/brake, Z is the gearshift. There is no director; no forced flags. Add ?debug, or click Debug, to single-step the Zilog Z8002 game CPU through the shared z8000 decoder — disassembling the REAL Z8002 game code — with breakpoints on the PC, register edit and side-effect-free memory views. Sound is the full board: the Namco 3-voice WSG, PLUS the Namco 52xx voice and 54xx noise customs (real MB8843/MB8844 MCUs run from their genuine ROMs, streaming their DACs) and the discrete engine-sound section (an 8-slot wavetable in the engine ROM clocked by the car RPM latch) — all mixed to one output.
