Whirlwind I
The Whirlwind I (MIT Instrumentation Lab, 1951) was the first digital computer built to run in real time, the first to use magnetic-core memory, and the first with an interactive CRT point-plotting display. It is a 16-bit, single-address, ones-complement machine with the AC, AR and BR registers and 2048 words of core. Here a from-scratch Whirlwind runs in your browser and plays the famous bouncing-ball demonstration on the scope. It plugs into the shared debugger, where you can single-step the CPU, watch AC, AR, BR, PC and the SAM special-add register, set breakpoints on the program counter, and read core memory as octal disassembly.
