Datapoint 2200

1970

The Datapoint 2200 (Computer Terminal Corporation, 1970) is the programmable terminal whose CPU specification Intel implemented as the 8008 — the first microprocessor and the direct ancestor of the x86 line. It has a built-in CRT text display and keyboard, seven registers, a Carry/Zero/Sign/Parity flag set and an eight-level call stack. Here it boots an authored program on a from-scratch processor, printing to the 12x80 CRT and echoing what you type. Open the debugger to single-step the CPU, watch the registers, flags and stack, set breakpoints and RAM write watchpoints, and read memory as 8008 disassembly.
