The Datapoint 2200 processor was a TTL serial CPU: a whole processor built from small-scale logic chips rather than a single microprocessor, running one bit at a time through a serial arithmetic unit. Computer Terminal Corporation contracted the design to Intel, who implemented the same instruction set in silicon as the 8008 — the first microprocessor and the direct ancestor of the x86 line. It has seven 8-bit registers, an H:L memory pointer, Carry, Zero, Sign and Parity flags and an eight-level call stack.
